The “try shaft first” narrative
Service Centers sometimes jump to drive-unit replacement when the complaint is a click or clunk. Half shafts (CV axles) wear, boots tear, and joints get noisy under torque — especially on cars that see hard launches or lots of parking-lot turns. We road-test, inspect boots/play, and separate shaft symptoms from DU whine/grind/vibration patterns before you spend DU money.

- Boot condition, joint play, and related suspension clues
- Drive-unit noise character (whine vs click) and any stored faults
- Clear recommendation: shaft, fluid, further DU work — or combination
